ATHLETIC DIRECTOR’S, COACHES AND THEIR DEFIBRILLATOR UNIT(S)
By PSAL Staff Reporter

The rules regarding Defibrillator units and PSAL sporting events:

The State Law requires public schools to ensure the presence of an AED unit and personnel trained in the operation and use of an AED unit at every athletic contests, practices and scrimmages.  In addition, The Department of Education has mandated AED certification for all coaches.

Coaches who fail to comply with State Law and Department of Education regulations will be suspended.

If you need an additional Defibrillator (AED) Unit(s):

Athletic Directors who are in need of additional units must contact either Mary Jo Chime or Donovan A. Lauther with their requests.  Mary Jo Chime is responsible for Regions 7, 8, 9, 10, Citywide, Alternative and Charter schools and can be contacted at Mchime2@nycboe.net or (212) 347-6755. Donovan A. Lauther is responsible for Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 and can be contacted at Dlauthe@nycboe.net or (212) 374-6757.  Directors must obtain and submit police reports for lost or stolen AED units to the above-mentioned personnel in order to receive replacements. In order to make changes (add or delete names) to the list of trained responders, you must email changes to the staff above and provide a brief explanation for the change.
