Queens Winter Classic heads to Cardozo HS By PSAL Staff Reporter
 The first of four PSAL Winter Classics kicks off this weekend. For the first time since its inception the Queens Winter Classic will be held at a local High School. Benjamin Cardozo High School will be the host of this year’s event. On Saturday, December 20, 2003, four of the PSAL’s top Queens teams will take to the floor to defend their Borough against teams from outside the Borough. The first game, which kicks off at 2pm, will feature Norman Thomas vs Beach Channel in the first girls game. Diashe Timberlake of Norman Thomas leads the way after eight games averaging 23ppg. Beach Channel’s Chiquita Ivory will be counted on for her senior leadership as well a her steady scoring average (12ppg). The 4pm girls game has last year’s “B” Division champions Grand Street Campus up against August Martin. Martins Nicole Michael brings her 17ppg & 14rpg averages into the weekend spotlight against Grand Street’s Monet Johnson 21ppg & 15rpg
The first boys game, which begins at 6pm, has New Dorp High School traveling from Staten Island to take on a strong Bayside team. A young New Dorp team led by junior Ramsey Hill looks to get on the winning track but will face a tough task in Bayside, which is lead by the senior duo of Ryan Leak and Tyron Dulin. The nightcap, which kicks off at 8pm, has Sheepshead Bay High School facing Newtown High School. The Sharks of Sheepshead Bay are led by Sean Watson (18ppg), Michael Johnson (16ppg) and Steven Jackson (21ppg & 13 rpg). Newtown’s Byron Headley (16ppg & 8rpg) leads the Pioneers in this matchup.
