The PSAL girls swim team going to the New York State Federation Swimming and Diving Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center in Rochester this weekend is the largest and best ever. As the girls donned their  orange champion t-shirts, their smiles were like the Yankees after winning the world series.

Two of the members of our team include USA Junior National Team members senior Sara Giberson, Tottenville and Annie Zhu, Brooklyn Tech. Sara crushed her own record twice at the meet for the 200 Free with a final record time of 1:50.17. She came right back for the second event, the 200 IM with a winning time of 2:06.59. Annie will represent our team in three events which she qualified for during the season, the 200 Medley relay with Caroline Laskowski, Aileen Pablo, and Sara Bouzarouata, the 500 Free, and the 100 Breaststroke. Sarah will also swim in two individual events, the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Krista Caputo, Curtis and Nicole Rodriguez, Francis finished 2nd and 3rd in the 200 Free and also qualified for state. Krista will also swim the 500 and Nicole will swim the 100 Backstroke. Winning the 100 Backstroke was Joyce Kwok, Francis Lewis who broke her own meet record with a time of: 59.06. Another qualifier in this event will be Rosemarie O’Connor, Curtis. Townsend Harris placed two swimmers on the dream team, Kellen McCarthy, winner of the 100 Breaststroke (1:09.67) and Karina Hain in the 200 IM. Rachel  Gu, Bronx Science won the Dive event. Stuyvesant won the 200 Free Relay, but just got touched out by Francis Lewis for the 400 Free Relay. Ashley Qian, Stuyvesant also qualified for the 100 Fly and 100 Back.

Senior Sara Giberson won the Francine Schnarr Memorial Award for the Outstanding Senior Swimmer. Nicole Rodriguez won the April Lao Memorial Award for outstanding rookie (9th grade) swimmer.

Stuyvesant claimed the Anna B. Stez  Memorial Trophy for 1st Place Team Points, defeating Brooklyn Tech.  Both teams face each other next Tuesday in the finals of the team championships at the Lehman College, 5:00 PM start.
