Coach’s Preview of the Coming Season:
After returning to the playoffs following a 1 year hiatus, the Pioneers are prepared to build on last season's success. With a nice mix of veterans and newcomers, Newtown should compete for a playoff spot in the new Queens Mid-West A division.
Highlights of Last Season:
Doing a complete 180 from an unsuccessful 2007 campaign and returning to the playoffs.
Significant Team Accomplishments:
Continuing to place all of our graduating seniors into college programs.

Coach’s Preview of the Coming Season:
The graduation of 5 seniors from last year's playoff squad will create major voids both in the lineup and in the clubhouse. However, the Pioneers have a deep pitching staff that will rely on the defense to back them up. Power bats have been replaced by speedsters. Assuming all the pieces come together, Newtown should compete for a playoff spot.

As always, our greatest success is conntinuing to place our graduating seniors into college.
Significant Team Accomplishments:
Newtown advanced to the second round of the playoffs. LHP/OF Andres Caceres (Connors State, OK) made the all-Queens team for the second consecutive year.

Coach’s Preview of the Coming Season:
An interesting mix of veterans and newcomers should make this a rebuilding season for the Pioneers. The loss of Gomez, Veras and Rodriguez will be very tough to replace, both on the field and in the clubhouse. Newtown will rely on the strength of its pitching to keep it in games. Caceres will lead a very deep pitching staff that will come at you from all angles and speeds. If one or 2 guys have breakout seasons at the plate, the Pioneers should compete for a playoff spot.
Highlights of Last Season:
-2nd consecutive trip to the playoffs
-All Queens players Jeff Gomez, Rafael Lara, Delvy Fernandez and Andres Caceres
-The first Newtown Baseball Alumni event, attended by over 50 former players. The event raised over $1800 to be used for scholarships for future players.

Continuing to place our graduating seniors in college environments where they will succeed on the field as well as in the classroom.
